Twelfth Night

Today is a rather celebratory day in the McDonald household. To most people this is just January 6, 2009, another day in their life. You might raise an eyebrow when I tell you that today I am going to dress up in costume, make a twelfth-cake, drink Lamb's Wool and watch Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night". But I am. Because, my friends, today is the last day of Christmas! Twelfth Night. The day my True Love gives me Twelve Drummers drumming.

Just joking about the drummers. :-D Oh, *cough* and the true love. :-D

Here are the words to the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas". My Mother posted an entire post about the meaning behind this song, that I found to be particularly fascinating! You can read it HERE.

The Twelve Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!

So you might try picking up Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" this evening and give it a read-through. Or maybe you could sing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" aloud to yourself! Or, you might even dress up in costume and celebrate! But whatever you do (even if it is just the usual.), I pray that you have a HAPPY Twelfth Night! And as it is still officially Christmas, I hope you have a VERY Merry Christmas!
:-) Have a blessed week!

In Christ Alone,

Jessica

Oh, boy....Shakespeare.....I really should work on liking the guy!

I always get messed up on the latter verses.

And I don't think you are odd. Before we got the puppy, I know Mom wanted to celebrate the twelve days of Christmas....but now, life is hectic with dogs!

Hi Jessica,
Our family learned a group dance that goes with the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas"! It is really fun. :-) It has a different dance step for each "day of Christmas" mentioned in the song. :-) (If you are interested in the instructions, let me know and I could either put them on a comment or e-mail them to you.)

Blessings,
~Chloe~

Meg, I'm so glad that you commented! It's always nice to meet someone new. :-) And I second that! Go Mr. Tileny! *sheepish grin* And yes, he beats Mr. Darcy. :-D hehe. Glad to see another fan!!!

Ella, you really should! Maybe watching some of his movies would help first? The first Shakespeare I ever saw was "Henry V" (I'd never read any of his works at that point.), I was VERY young and thought it utterly boring. Until I watched it a bit later and realized, "This guy is incredible! Listen to that dialogue!" From there I read his works and watched more. Now I absolutely love them!

Lis, Oo! You must come watch "Twelfth Night" with us next time you come up to Illinois! ;-) That would be SO much fun! Don't worry about the "e"...it makes "Twelfth" look VERY Old English!! :-) Love you too!!!

Amanda, I got the icons from this site: http://www.livejournal.com/moodlist.bml?moodtheme=524227&ownerid=2707070 I love them!!!

Mrs. Winton, It was very fun and we hope to keep it up for a very long time!! Thank you so much for commenting! I had the pleasure of listening to your family sing and play and it was amazing!!!

Chloe, How neat is that! I would love the instructions! Thank you! You could email them to insertfootinopenmouth@gmail.com Thank you again! :-)

Jessica

This is completely unrelated to your post, sorry. :) I was just curious where you got your emotions that you put at the bottom of your posts? They're just great, and I'd love to use them too.
