Do you ever hear a song that moves you and really speaks to your heart? I had one of those moments. I heard this one on the radio on the way home from Church today and nearly cried. It's beautiful.

Blessings
by Laura Story

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise

Love this song...makes me teary eyed almost every time too! It so resonates with this season of life for me personally, and our family...as well as, "Blessed Be Your Name" which I'm sure you're familiar with. ;)

This is the song I sing in my heart on those nights when darkness seems to win.

It's one of my all-time favorites.

Actually, I love Laura Story, period.

Meghan, Same here!! It's so amazing to me how God reveals songs like this to me just when I need them. :) And yes, "Blessed Be Your Name" is another one - love it.

Bailey, It's one of my (new) favorites as well. I love her as well! "Mighty to Save" has especially proven encouraging to me in times of need.

Emil, YOU WOULD. Yes, I'm jealous!!! :P Someday I'm going to get on your computer and burn that and "I See the Light" onto a cd without you knowing! haha! ;D

:) Amazing how this song is now suddenly all over my life. My grandfather (my very dear beloved grandfather) died two months ago, and this was the song me and my two friends (his adopted "grandkids") and I would listen to and cry. I have it on my MP3 and I bought a copy of it for them too. (Amazon MP3! It's $0.99 MP3 downloads on there...tons of songs!) It's one of my favorites? Do you know the story behind this? Laura's husband has a brain tumor and she wrote in when they needed the blessings. :) My dad has a brain tumor too (he should be dead, but he isn't! Doctors call him a miracle, and they basically have to either rethink the way the brain works, or call it that) and I think of him when I hear this now too.
Have a Blessed Evening!

I had no idea about the story behind this song. How beautiful. Thank you sharing!!
