Oracles of Fire Book # 3- Last of the Nephilim by Bryan Davis

It’s no secret. Ask my family—I’ve been on pins and needles waiting for "Last of the Nephilim" to come out. It was a tortuous wait, but I wasn’t disappointed.

As I curled up on the couch and opened the crisp new pages, the world went away. I was swept into a land of ancient legend, history, fantasy, biblical truth, and adventure—all in one deliciously captivating book! As I immersed myself in the story, I was reminded of how much I love this new series, "Oracles of Fire." Mr. Davis has once again proven himself a superb writer and storyteller. I read far into the night, devouring page after page, not wanting to put it down. I had to discover what would happen to all the characters from the previous books (Yes, Bonnie and Billy return!).

Basically, the world is in jeopardy. Mardon (the son of King Nimrod) has found a way to join Earth and Hades and has also raised up an army of Nephilim. Second Eden is in trouble, as evil has entered. Every person there is in peril, as well as those on earth. Who can defeat them? Our familiar heroes! All the former dragons and their children are called to battle these ancient adversaries, once and for all.

I honestly cannot do this book (or this series) justice in one simple review (I'm not much of a "book reviewer"), but I can tell you this, don't let this one slip by. Not only is it worth your time, but it's absolutely worth your money. And not only will you walk away eagerly looking forward to book #4 ("Bones of Makaidos") but you will also find your faith invigorated, as you recall to mind that God can do amazing things through ordinary people—just like you and me.

Often, I avoid hardship, praying God will give me a path without pain or trials. But this book reminded me that God uses all things for our good and His glory; and that when Jesus calls me to do something, He will also give me the strength to accomplish it (Philippians 4:13).

I pray that along with enjoying a fascinating, well-written story, you will embrace this simple truth: God will equip you to accomplish whatever He calls you to do; and though your strength may fail, His never will.

Thanks for the review Jessica.
I think I will look into getting these books for my children for read aloud time. Should I get the "Dragons in our Midst" series before this one?
What age group do you think would enjoy listening to these books?
I know he geared the books for children 10-16, but do you think someone younger would still pay attention?
Thanks Jessica.
Hope you are enjoying time with your sweet nephew!

P.S. By the way William looks adorable with his haircut. Ahhh, he's moved from babyhood into toddler land! :)

I've always meant to get around to reading that series, but I haven't! My list of books I want to read grows faster than I can keep up with some times! I'll have to bump this one up...

Hi Jess!!!
Ooooh, that sounds great! I just finished reading one good book, and I was looking around for another. I hope our library has at least the first part of the series!
Love you!!!

Joe, I don't think we'll be going as we're not officially "homeschool leaders" anymore as we sold our magazine.:( And wow, it HAS been forever...!

Sierra, it was good!! It's actually being passed around right now. You should convince Josiah to buy it. :-)

Mrs. Dumais, Yes! You should read "Dragons in Our Midst" first! I'm not sure. The books can be a bit scary (especially "Circles of Seven). I wouldn't reccomend them to anyone under 10, unles the child was extremely mature. Hope that helps!

Josh, Yes you should! Definitely! :-)I believe that you'd enjoy them immensely. BTW, Planning on vacationing (or moving!) up to Illinois anytime soon? *BIG GRIN* (I know, I'm never going to leave y'all alone about that. :-D)

Cassie, yes!!!!! You would love it, m'dear!
LOL. And that's what I always do "the library had better have ____!" :-D Actually, if you're looking for a good read I have some book reccomendations for you!! :-) (I just went on a library rampage last week.) :-) love you too!

Jessica, I didn't mean to be controversial when I asked that question (I'm guessing that's why you deleted it :P). I'm so sorry.

Oh, phew. :P LOL
All I basically asked is if this is the series that has Merlin as a prophet of God, and if it is, is it as bad as it sounds? I'm just curious. :) And I wanted you to do an "official" review on Literary Lasses, too. ;)

Bailey, in the books Mr. Davis basically takes myth and legend and makes it into something real and from his own imagination. No one knows if there was actually a Merlin, and if there was, what he was. Most legends have it that he was a wizard, but it doesn't have to be that way. Mr. Davis decided to make him into a prophet of God, which fits the story perfectly. It is fiction, afterall, and he doesn't claim that any of it is fact in any way. So for a Christian Fantasy book, I think it works. :-) Hope that helps!

Oh and would you like me to put this same review up on Literary Lasses?

Love, Jess

Jessica--thanks for clarifying! My only hesitation on that was I wasn't exactly sure if someone could write about a wizard being God's prophet, since I'm wary of "magic" (or fantasy) with God still in it; it sort of seems like two powers. :) But now you've got me excited *must check library*. I'm sorry for exaggerating over the deleted thing; I do love a good melodrama. LOL And do either repost or elaborate just a teensy bit more on your review!

Lots of love,
Bailey
