Thoughts on the recent election...

Why do the nations rage,
And the people plot a vain thing?

The kings of the earth set themselves,
And the rulers take counsel together,
Against the LORD and against His Anointed,
saying,
“Let us break Their bonds in pieces
And cast away Their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;
The Lord shall hold them in derision.

Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,
And distress them in His deep displeasure:
“Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.”
“I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me,
‘You
are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance,
And the ends of the earth
for Your possession.
You shall break them with a rod of iron;
You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’”

Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way,
When His wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed
are all those who put their trust in Him.
-Psalm 2

Well it looks like the people of this nation have finally gotten what they have longed for...or rather who they think they need. Barack Hussein Obama will be the president of my beloved country. How could this happen? I fight the tears that threaten and my heart cries out to God, WHY?
I must say truthfully that I never thought that Obama would actually win. I proudly voted for McCain and I was sure he would win, hands down. I convinced myself that the people of this country would never, knowingly, vote for a man who upholds everything that we, as Christians are so vehemently against. I am very sadly dissapointed.

What I am at a complete loss to understand is HOW the people of this nation could actually vote for a man that stands for so many horrible and wicked things? Do they not even flinch when he says that mothers have the right to kill their babies? Do their consciences' not scream "MURDER!"?

I was reading a book about Rome recently and I had to shudder. It was way too familiar. Too close to home. Why? Because we are going in the exact same direction. Rampant abortion, sodomy, complete government control...that was Rome. And I'm afraid that that is soon to be America too. And Rome eventually fell. And it was a great fall indeed. What will happen to the United States of America?

Our forefathers, those who fought for this nation, would weep if they could see it now.

But I remind myself of what my Father so rightly reminded me of last night, that God is in control! God will always be in control and He loves His people with a never-ending love. That will never change, my friends! Have courage! Have Faith! And look forward to voting Obama out of office in 2012!

I can only pray that God has mercy on us and changes the hearts of our new leaders!

Also, both Ella
and Jasmine have excellent blog posts on this election that y'all might appreciate reading!

P.S. On a lighter note, anyone interested in moving to Venezuala? :-)

I think you're totally right; it all looks pretty scary but hey, God is in control! I think all we can do now is pray for Obama; may God show him the light.

I believe that God is judging the people of America by giving them what they want. :-( But Ethan is right... God is in control! :-) And remember, God said that if there were even ten righteous men found in the whole city of Sodom he would not destroy it.

Personally, I'm actually excited about the results with the presidential election, not for the typical reasons that people like about Obama (of course ;), but for how God really can be honored and glorified in such dire times. Usually we grow through the difficult times...it's the nice and convenient times during which we become stagnant.

Here's to the next four years with Obama as President. *clinks glasses*

Jessica,

I'm working up a response for you. I'll post a link when I'm done.

Wait, sister! Don't give another thought - even in jest - to moving away. (We'd miss having you around, you know...)

But seriously, we have to stop and accept the fact that the result of this election is our own fault, and so to run away from it would be rather irresponsible. The church has been commanded by its Lord to make disciples. The election outcome is merely an indication that we haven't been faithful in doing that - in fact, we have failed miserably in doing that. And so in some ways this election changes very little.

We should feel sharply the sting of the rebuke, repent before God, seek His mercy, wisdom and strength, and then get up and do, by the power of His Spirit, what we've been told to do. The battle may have grown more difficult due to our disobedience, but the plans haven't changed.

Don't be despondent, don't give up! We must get back up on our feet. We must accept each duty before us - both small and great - and carry it out intentionally, passionately, and faithfully. We must understand that there are no inconsequential moments in the life God has created for us and make the most of each hour. We must stand before God grateful for His mercy, and committed again to faithful service. We must make disciples of the nations.

Hang in there, friend, like Ashton said, we could be in for exciting times! :-)

Ethan, How right you are! I will definitely be praying for our new president continually!!

Joy, Exactly. Though it does sadden me. :(

Ashton, True! I call to mind James 1:2-4 which states, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
Not sure if I'll clink glasses with you, lol, but I will say that I am going to 'count it all joy'. Thankfully I tend to be an optamist so hopefully I won't find it too difficult! :-)

Mr. Ben Ezra, I look forward to reading it!

Jessica, How right you are! Thank you very, very much for the encouragement!!! You recalled to my mind the verse from 2 Chronicles 7:14,"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
And on the brighter side, Obama's presidency gives us more oppurtunites to stand for Christ!!

Maybe this will be pretty exciting after all! :-)

Thank you so much everyone for your wonderful comments!!! God bless!

Jessica, currently Venezuela is much worse than we are! =)

I know your feelings. I have had the same ones. In all honesty, I did expect Obama even though I didn't want it. People demanded "Their king" just like in 1 Samuel.

But Mom and I talked about something today. No one thought Saul would change. He was the most evil man the Christians could imagine. But the Lord got a hold of his heart and now, Paul is one of our patriarchs. If we pray. perhaps the Lord will do the same thing to Barack Obama.

We never know. But we do know that the Lord will work this out for His glory!! Reminding myself of that a lot!

I was just curious as to how you made your book cover.
Looks great!

I am actually pretty excited about this. Not that I'm *thrilled to my toes* about our president-elect (with all due respect, sir), but because when darkness deepens, the Light shines brighter.

It is an honor to still be called to fight for America and my Savior, whatever the circumstances. I think I'll spend less time lamenting what battles we have lost and focusing more on the war at hand. We must press on!

In Christ,
Bailey

p.s. I think it will be fun to have two cute girls with poodles in the White House, though. ;)

Ella, How true! Who knows? Perhaps a miracle will occur and his heart will be changed! How exciting that would be!
I keep reminding myself too!! :-D

Annabelle, I made my book cover on www.photobucket.com and Picasa. :-) Thank you!

Bailey, I agree! And there are sure to be more opportunities for us to stand for what we believe in! Now *that* is exciting!!

Thank you very much y'all for your comments! God bless!

Jessica,
It really is interesting (and yet sort of scary!) times we live in!! I too was shocked that Obama was elected... how can a foreigner be in office? (He wasn't even born in America!) My older sister and I think that maybe this is the time The Lord will strengthen and build HIS church-- and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. What a promise, even when everything looks so gloomy!

Achaia,

Actually President-elect Obama is a natural-born citizen. Check out the Snopes article on the issue.

To Regret Obama's election is to disagree with God's will.

If it wasn't God's will, then Obama wouldn't be elected for 2008.

I wasn't at all surprised that Obama was voted as the new president. In fact I expected no less. I suppose because many of the people I work with, Christians, voted for him. They argue that even though our current president is against abortion, they haven't decreased under his presidency.

I think though, mainly, they were more attracted to him, in his "change" message and such. I heard people say again and again, "I don't agree with him, but I want to give him a chance." They weren't at all concerned about the Bill Ayers connections, the Jeremiah Wright stuff, his connection with ACORN...etc.

And the people who I talked too simply thought that McCain wasn't serious enough about becoming president. That and the fact that Sarah Palin, and I love the lady!, simply wasn't seasoned enough for the job...the media had a field day with her...

I'm just glad it all over...I love politics but I was sick and tired of them by Nov. 4th.
